| About Me |
|
Hi! My name is Kiley Herndon and I am currently a junior at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). I am double majoring in English and Speech Communication. Originally, I am from Wood River, Ill. where I attended Roxana High School. Currently, I am interning at Senator Bill Haine’s office in Alton, Ill. and assisting Professor Sarah Vanslette on a public relations study.
I am extremely interested in English because of my love of literature and the freedom I have with writing for my English classes. I find the English language fascinating and enjoy flexing my vocabulary in my writing pieces for those classes. Also, I am majoring in English because I love to read and appreciate the open atmosphere my classes offer for discussion.
My public relations major is a love that I have recently adopted. I was not quite sure of the job requirements of public relations and no one could really seem to define it for me. Then, I found that public relations is almost impossible to define because of the all-encompassing job it does for the person or company a professional represents. I love staying busy and organized and this fast-paced career seemed a perfect fit for me. My love of the English language also allows me to be a better, more engaging public relations writer.
My work at Bill Haine’s office has been very beneficial to my overall understanding of community and politics. My research with Vanslette is also fascinating because it allows me to use my love of reading and articulating what I have read in a way that also helps me to understand the job of a public relations professional as it relates to empathy, which is the basis of our study.
